BEYOND YOGA is an activewear and lifestyle brand that combines functionality, comfort and style. Designed with every body type in mind, BEYOND YOGA offers flattering, fit-focused collections that move effortlessly from day to night, and from the gym to meetings and beyond. BEYOND YOGA believes that every woman should celebrate their body. Beauty is not a size, it’s a state of mind.

Made with love in the U.S.A., BEYOND YOGA is crafted from luxuriously soft yet durable, wash-and-wear fabrics. Its collections are produced in sizes XXS-XL to fit every body type–from size 0 to 16, and from petite to curvy. Each piece is meticulously designed and tested to ensure optimal comfort and functionality–from bra straps providing adequate support to elastic-free waistbands preventing uncomfortable digging and bulging.

Blaire's take on BY...Next time you are in the studio try on a pair of Beyond Yoga's quilted capris or the sassy neon pink multi-cross tank! The fit is so flattering and the style is even better. I love every piece we have in the boutique! Unlike many other activewear brands, Beyond Yoga really feels like it is made for every body type. I'm so excited that we could bring such a great product into Maya. I truly feel that Beyond Yoga represents Maya's core values, which are to celebrate your body, tread lightly on the earth, and be kind to yourself and others.

Allergies? We Can Help!! Acupuncture is an effective and safe method of relieving seasonal allergies.

5/19/2014

Spring is such a rejuvenating and joyful time of the year...for most of us. For many though, these days of renewal are a time of extreme discomfort. Sneezing, wheezing, sinus headaches;  if you suffer from seasonal allergies these are all too familiar. But here's the good news, you don't have to suffer! And, you don't have to rely on drugs, which result in annoying side effects. Acupuncture is a safe and effective way to relieve your seasonal allergies and there are little to no side effects.
A recent study compared the effects of real acupuncture, "fake" acupuncture and no treatment in people with seasonal allergies. After a course of 12 acupuncture treatments over the course of 8 weeks, people receiving real acupuncture treatments had less allergy symptoms compared to people receiving sham acupuncture or no acupuncture treatment.

Yoga has helped me to see the bigger picture in life. We all come from something and we all will return to that something. Be it the mother of the universe or your actual mother, we all have the potential to understand where we come from and where we are going through these relationships and bonds that connect all beings.

Something that I have come to appreciate more than anything is that my mother supports me no matter what. She gave me my first journal and started my off on this journey of self-discovery. She has never let me get away with not learning something from every situation. We have always shared a bond that, at times, has resulted in conflict, but produced my greatest strides forward in life.

When I first started doing yoga I was immediately hooked. The one person that I wanted to share that experience with more than anyone, was my mother. I dragged her to her first class and she got hooked too. Now that I am a teacher I feel such a great connection to my mother when she chooses to come to my classes and be present with me. It has brought us closer. Despite being the teacher in the room, my mother is someone that I always look to for guidance. She has shown me many things about myself that I may not have noticed otherwise. Our conflicts even reveal something in regards to my greater truth and I feel grateful for the challenges and the joys that we share.

My mother is my rock. Thank you mom for letting me swim out fearlessly into the deeper waters that sometime scare me. I know that you are there for me to cling to when I need, but also to demonstrate, through your very existence, that life changes us all and there is no reason to cling to something and every reason to make that journey into myself, for myself, for all beings. We owe it to ourselves to ask the hard questions and face the fears that hold us back and to be grateful for every opportunity to give birth to our own inner truth.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Maya Moms. We celebrate you! Jai Ma!

Vinyasa Flow :: Sun Salutations Decoded

5/1/2014

The term “vinyasa” derives from two Sanskrit words “vi” and “nyasa” put together meaning “to place in a special way”.  Over the years, the style of yoga called “Vinyasa Flow” has come to mean a sequence of yogic postures linked with the practitioner’s own breath to create a moving meditation.  The result is a delicious yoga practice designed to strengthen and lengthen muscles, create freedom in joints and spine, and ultimately bring balance and a sense of calm to the mind.  While Vinyasa Flow can seem like a challenging practice at first glance, students are always encouraged to customize their practice using intuitive knowledge of their own body and supportive guidance of their instructor.  In short, almost anyone can do it, including you!

The Sun Salutations are frequently used in Vinyasa Flow as a warm-up to other postures.  These 12 postures alone are an invigorating set of dynamic forward bends, back bends combined to develop flexibility, core and upper body strength.  At first, the sequence will be challenging, but like anything else, will become less so with practice and persistence.  We’ve demystified each of the 12 postures for you to try yourself.
