Susan Watkins
Lead Instructor | Yoga | Yin | Restorative | Meditation
"From this moment on; live louder, love big. Don't ever be afraid to shine. Remember, the sun doesn't care if it blinds you. Shine your light, share your love. You matter. The world needs you."
Susan started practicing yoga with her Grandmother at the young age of 9 as a way to keep busy & avoid the Arizona summer heat. By no means has her path in yoga been smooth, easy, or linear. Susan connected with yoga when her life was a hot mess, she casually dabbled in yoga for years, sporadically and inconsistently attending classes at various studios. As time progressed & life's challenges grew her practice evolved, and her mat became a place of deep healing and connection. The practice of yoga made her realize that she didn’t need to constantly feel anxious, stressed, and dis-empowered.
Yoga offered her the tools to appreciate her thoughts, her body and to find an appreciation for life – her life. Susan works on creating an individual experience in a group setting, supporting you on your personal yoga journey.
Susan completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training in 2013. She has since received additional training in Yoga for Rehabilitation, Trauma Sensitive Yoga, Yoga and Mindfulness for At-Risk Youth, Mindfulness and Meditation, as well as Y12SR; a practice blending the 8 limbs of yoga with the 12 steps of addiction recovery.
Teaching Yin, Restorative Hatha, Gentle Slow Hatha Flow Yoga, and Yoga Nidra Meditation, Susan's classes are non-judgmental, non-competitive, and provide a safe, comfortable and nurturing space where you can let go of everyday stress to find balance. By offering options, modifications, props and encouraging curious exploration of movement and mind throughout the practice, Susan strives to bring a sense of stillness, intention, fun, light and appreciation while working on connecting the body, mind and spirit. Each class incorporates her love of music & words into the practice with guided meditations and connected movement and breath. Susan invites yogis to explore themselves with an open heart, an open mind and most importantly, with compassion.
In addition to her yoga training, Susan is also a Licensed and National Board Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, Reiki Master & has completed certification in Thai Yoga Massage. She enjoys blending this knowledge into her yoga & meditation classes.
