Online Group Classes @ Maya: How to use Zoom

We are grateful to have your continued support during this time. It is our goal to continue to hold space for your mind, body, and spirit as we navigate through this unforeseen terrain as a result of the COVID-19 health pandemic.  While we wish we could continue to teach, gather, and share our space with you in person. Given the current guidance from state and local officials about social distancing we are going to try something new to bridge the gap and stay connected…

We have been diligently working to optimize online offerings for you through the Zoom platform. With this online offering, you will be able to continue to interact with your teachers and other members of the Maya community.

Taking Online Classes
1). To participate in our online classes, please   Download the free Zoom app. You can use this on a computer, tablet, or smartphone. Learn how to use Zoom here.

2) Sign into your Maya Whole Health account, then register for class through MindBody Online, which can be found on the Group Class Live Schedule page on our website or on the MindBody Online (MBO) App.

3)  To ensure that your audio and video are working properly, we recommend opening the class link 10 minutes prior to class.  All class links can be found by clicking the "View Details" link for the class on the  Group Class Live Schedule page.  It can also be found in the Class Descriptions on Maya's MBO site.

4) Upon your “arrival” to the class, a Maya Staff member will admit you into the class & be present to assist throughout the session. The Maya staff member  will act as the moderator to ensure that all audio and video is working well to support the class experience. The moderator will open a chat on the Zoom platform to answer any questions that may arise.

5) All participants will be muted by the moderator upon arrival and are encouraged to keep their video on so that the instructor can engage with the students participating in the class.

Online Class FAQ:

What's Zoom?
Zoom is an application that unifies cloud video conferencing, simple online meetings, and group messaging into one easy-to-use platform. Zoom is available for free for your mobile device or desktop. (There are options for PC, Mac, Linux, iOS or Android).
 Check It Out Here!

How does it work?
  • First, download the application onto your device or laptop. Download and Sign Up Here!
  • After you have downloaded the software you will pre-register for your Maya class and a team member will contact you with the link one hour or more before the group class begins to grant you access.  Schedule an Online Maya Class
  • Click the link once you have received it and it will redirect you to the Maya online class through Zoom.
  • We suggest you arrive at least 10 minutes early to ensure you have plenty of time to get connected to the “meeting” before class begins.
  • The Maya teacher will teach the class from our studio and you will be able to see them and potentially other students via the online platform!
  • You have the option to show your screen/ face or just leverage your name.
  • From there the teacher will facilitate the virtual class.

How can I optimize my online class experience?
  • It is helpful if you can watch on a large screen and make sure your volume is set on high.
  • If you have a yoga mat, set it up near the monitor. If you don’t have a mat, try practicing on your carpet or rug. Still slippery? Wear tennis shoes or remove socks and practice barefoot.
  • While props are not required to attend these classes common household items can be good substitutes.
    • Block – a thick book, Tupperware or any other kitchen items
    • Strap – a robe tie, dog leash or scarf
    • Bolster – thick pillows, couch cushion and/or blankets.
    • Blanket – throw blanket or large towel

Maya Whole Health recommends that you consult with your physician before beginning any movement practice. You should be in good physical condition and be able to participate in physical movement. You should understand that when participating in any physical movement practice there is the possibility of physical injury.  If you participate in any of our classes you do so voluntarily and at your own risk, assuming all risk of injury yourself and agree to release and discharge Maya Whole Health and any of its instructors.
