Frequently Asked Questions

Yoga/Pilates FAQ:

  • I'm new to yoga and not sure where to start; what should I do?
    • We offer private one-on-one 30 minute consultations. During these consultations, you will be able to speak to one of our experienced, knowledgeable instructors and ask any questions you may have. They will be able to give you recommendations for classes and styles that would fit your needs. These consultations are $30 in price, and you will get a $20 rebate towards any class package or private lessons of your choosing.
  • Why is there an expiration date on class packages?
    • When purchasing a package, you are making a commitment to yourself. You are paying the studio for a service. Incentive, encouragement and accountability are part of that service. The studio and instructors budget the number of class sessions offered over a time period, based on the number of outstanding class packages that we have sold, to ensure that there is enough availability to provide access to those who have purchased the packages.  If we don’t put an expiration date on packages, we would not know how many people to expect in classes over that period of time. We do allow clients to roll unused, expired class credits onto a new package of equal or greater value, if they do so within 30 days of expiration.
  •  Do I have to be a member to take classes?
    •  You do not have to be a member to take one of our classes. We offer drop-in rates of $23 for all and $18 for students/seniors/veterans/teachers. See the rest of our pricing here.
  • I'm going on vacation and want to pause my unlimited package.  How do I do that?
    • The only time that we allow package pausing is if there is a valid doctor note, birth of a child, or extenuating circumstances. Contact our front desk via phone, in studio, or via email and one of our team members will happily assist you.
  • Do you offer a free introductory class for new clients?
    • Although we do not offer a free class for new clients, we do offer packages that are exclusive for new clients only. These options include a One Month Unlimited Group Class Pass for $69 and a Two Month Unlimited Group Class Pass for $99.
  • Do you have showers?
    • We do not have showers, but we do have changing stalls and two large bathrooms where you can change before or after class and freshen up.
  • Do you have lockers?
    • Although we do not have lockers, we do have cubbies in our studio for you to store your belongings while you are in class or a private lesson. They aren’t locked; however, we always either have security cameras, someone at the front desk, and/or our front door is locked so your items are secured.
  • I registered for a workshop and something came up, so I won't be able to attend.  Can I get a refund?
    • The only time you can receive a refund on a workshop is if the workshop was cancelled. If something comes up prior to 48 hours from the workshop time, you can save the credit on your account for the next workshop. If you cancel within 48 hours of the workshop, the credit will be lost. If you need to cancel, please contact our front desk via email or phone and one of our team members will happily assist you.
  • What do I wear to a yoga/pilates class?
    • We recommend that you wear what you are most comfortable in; yoga pants, leggings, shorts, tank tops, t-shirts, etc. We prefer no shoes in our practice studio, but you are welcome to take the class wearing socks or barefoot.
  • I don't want anyone to touch me, how can I tell the instructor without being rude?
    • No worries! You can simply tell the instructor before class if you prefer not to be touched during your practice. You will not offend anyone, we totally understand and respect everyone’s preferences!
  • I'm interested in taking some yoga classes, but I'm pregnant, which classes am I able to take?
    • As of right now, Prenatal Yoga is offered once a week at Maya Whole Health, every Saturday at 10AM.  We also offer several other yoga and Pilates classes throughout the week that are beneficial for pregnancy health, though they are not specifically geared towards prenatal, like the Saturday class. The four factors I recommend you consider in determining which classes on our schedule are appropriate (other than how they work in your schedule):
      1) Your stage of pregnancy
      2) Your level of fitness
      3) Your experience/knowledge of yoga or pilates practice
      4) Any pre-existing health challenges or concerns about the stability of your pregnancy

In the first 10 weeks of pregnancy, the classes most often recommended (other than Prenatal) are Restorative Yoga and Yoga for Seniors and Others. Depending on your level of fitness and experience, other good options in phase one are Pilates Mat, Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga (with specific modifications), and Creative Flow. Until you have reached the 10 week mark, it is generally recommended that you avoid any faster paced and most vigorous classes. If there are no significant risk factors in your pregnancy, consult with your health care providers, you can typically enjoy more vigorous classes after the 10-week mark, until well into your 3rd trimester, basically until it is no longer comfortable.

When exploring classes other than Prenatal Yoga during your pregnancy, please notify the instructor of the class that you are pregnant at the beginning of each practice session, so he/she can provide appropriate modifications. And whether practicing in the studio or at home during pregnancy, keep in mind the following pointers:
~Inverted poses (legs/hips over head) are not recommended at any time during pregnancy.
                 ~Avoid bouncing/kicking/jumping activities.
~Hold back from taking stretches and bends to the edge, as you would otherwise.  Your body is more "stretchy" during pregnancy, but you                       are still prone to injury from overdoing it.  The last thing you need during pregnancy is a dislocated joint or pulled muscle.
                ~
If possible, get regular massage (and/or do self-massage) within a few hours after your practice.
~Drink plenty of water and electrolytes.
~At any point, if a certain practice feels uncomfortable or causes queasiness, immediately discontinue and move into a resting pose-                                 everyone will understand and support your efforts to honor your body.

Massage FAQ:

  • Do you require referral to get a medical massage?
    • No. You can self-refer for a medical massage and our practitioner will medically chart your session.  We can provide an Itemized Medical Receipt, using subjective diagnosis codes- however, most insurance companies and FSA plans require a prescription or referral from a health care professional legally qualified to issue a ICD-10 diagnosis code and a treatment plan that provides diagnosis code, number and frequency of treatments, and duration of treatment plan.  Our practitioners cannot retroactively change chart notes or alter the itemized receipt, so it is important to get a referral ahead of time, if you need one in order to get the reimbursement you are seeking. Please ask if you have any questions about this policy.
  • Can I split a 60-minute massage into 2-30 minute massages or a 90-minute into 2-45 minute massage sessions?
    • No.  When you purchase a massage session of a specific length of time, it must be completed in a single session.
  • Why is my credit card still getting charged after the 3-months of my 3-month contract?
    • Per the contract, after you have fulfilled your contract period (3 months, 6 months, or 12 months), your subscription will auto-renew on a month-to-month basis at the same rate you signed up to pay. If you do not wish to pay for these services after your contract term, please let our front desk know 14 days prior to your contract end date and someone can manually change your account settings.
  • Do you offer massage appointments on Sundays?
    • No. We do not offer massage services on Sundays as we do not have any practitioners in the studio.
